What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle and natural state of focused presence. It can allow the mind to become absorbed in imagination and metaphor, or a deep process. Much like when we get lost in a book, a piece of music, or even a daydream. During ‘trance state’, the usual noise of everyday thoughts can soften, and creativity, resilience, and greater self-understanding can become available.

Often, there are misconceptions related to hypnosis due to what is seen on stage or TV. However, therapeutic hypnotherapy is very different, and in this space, people often find a sense of calm, clarity, and inner balance that can ripple into daily life.

Sessions may involve guided relaxation and positive suggestion, supporting the rewriting of unhelpful stories or internalised ideas. It is a process of re-patterning that allows new and healthier ways of relating to ourselves and our experiences to emerge.

What benefits does it have?

Many people come to hypnotherapy not only to ease difficulties, but also to enhance wellbeing, build inner confidence, and connect with a greater sense of balance.

Research has found hypnotherapy can be supportive for (but not limited to):

  • Cultivating deep relaxationreducing stress

  • Enhancing emotional wellbeingresilience

  • Managing anxiety, worry, & phobias

  • Lifting low mood & supporting motivation

  • Breaking old habits (eating, drinking, smoking, etc.)

  • Relieving physical discomfort, such as chronic pain or tension

  • Easing digestive issues (including IBS)

  • Improving sleep qualityrestfulness

While some view hypnosis as a quick fix, the way I practice is more integrative: working with the past, present, and future, and using the power of story to support insight, and lasting change.

Why do we practice it?

Hypnotherapy helps by giving the mind and body a space to pause. In everyday life, we’re often thinking, reacting, planning, remembering, without time to connect all the pieces together. In a session, we can slow down the pace, giving the conscious and unconscious mind more space to communicate better; weaving together insights, emotions, and intentions that might otherwise stay disconnected.

This process of integration often feels like telling your story in a new way. Old patterns or experiences that once felt fixed might be seen from a different perspective, and new possibilities can emerge. Sometimes it’s a shift in how the body feels, other times it’s a new sense of clarity or a gentle release of tension you may not even realise you’re carrying.

In this way, hypnotherapy doesn’t just aim to reduce a difficulty; it helps you build a more connected and meaningful relationship with yourself, often lasting long after the session ends.

What methods do I use?

I work in a pluralistic and integrative way, acknowledging that different people need different things from therapy, and that your preferences, strengths, and goals matter deeply. There is no single “right” way to be in this dynamic; therefore, we collaborate to find what works best for you.

Being pluralistic means that we explore what you want from therapy, how you want to work, and whether our sessions are helping you move in the direction you desire.
Being integrative means that I draw from a range of therapeutic models, such as person-centred, gestalt, embodiment, creative, and relational approaches, to support the unique shape of your process.

All this allows our work to be flexible and responsive, adjusting in real time as your needs deepen, clarify, or shift.

Where do I take influence?

With a background in the creative arts, I bring inspiration from this world into my sessions. This might include somatic or movement-based practices, which invite you to notice thoughts, emotions, and insights through the body, attuning to its subtle but intelligent ways of communicating.

I am also influenced by the cathartic nature of performance and play, where embodiment and expression can create a pathway into vulnerability via imagination. Being witnessed in these creative or experiential ways can allow access to deep emotional states or may simply give space for light-hearted release.

These approaches are offered gently, with clear communication, choice, and consent. If creative expression feels meaningful to you, it can become part of our work together. If not, our sessions can remain more verbal. There is no expectation, only possibility.

How might this look in sessions?

Sessions can take many forms, depending on what feels right for you.

Sometimes they might be spacious and calm; sometimes expressive and dynamic; sometimes focused and practical.
The work is always guided by your pace, preferences, and what feels meaningful to you in the moment.

Autism & Neurodivergence

I work from the social model of disability, bringing over 10 years of experience working closely with Autistic individuals across a range of settings, much of which being 1-1. This has given me a deep and nuanced understanding of the Autistic experience, as well as the unique challenges that come with being misunderstood in a world not always designed for difference.

Alongside this professional experience, I have also come to recognise and embrace my own neurodivergence. This personal journey allows me to show up with greater authenticity, empathy, and sensitivity in our work together.

Whether you are exploring a possible diagnosis, beginning the process of unmasking, or simply seeking to understand yourself more fully in relation to your neurodivergence, I offer an affirming, skilled, and compassionate space to support you.

Queerness and Late Blooming Queerness

Exploring your sexual or gender identity can be both exciting and challenging, especially when unpacking layers that may have been hidden, misunderstood, or dismissed. As someone who discovered my own queer identity later in life, I understand the courage and complexity involved in this process.

I am a queer- and gender-affirming therapist, and I offer a supportive, non-judgemental space to help you explore your truth. This may look like reconnecting with parts of yourself that may have felt lost or helping you consider what living authentically might look like.

Whether you are just beginning to question, are a late bloomer, or have long identified as queer, I am here to listen, affirm, and accompany you on this journey.

Polyamory & Alternative Relating Styles

Whether you practice Polyamory, Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM), Relationship Anarchy (RA), or another non-traditional way of relating, you deserve a space where you can be heard and affirmed in this.

You may be navigating the challenges of beginning a new relationship style, seeking clarity in existing dynamics, or simply wanting a supportive place to explore what feels right for you. Whatever your journey, I offer non-judgmental support, with sensitivity to the unique joys and complexities of non-normative relating.

You deserve a space where you feel seen, heard, and safe to explore all parts of yourself. My role is to walk alongside you with warmth, honesty, and respect. Offering combinations of empathy and gentle challenge so that we can uncover what may feel hidden or out of reach.

Having an intersectional identity combined with many years of experience working with diverse communities, I am informed by both lived understanding and professional knowledge. Because of this, I will meet you with my openness and without assumptions.

My approach is rooted in values of justice, integrity, creativity, and nurturing. I believe therapy is not only about individual growth but also about reconnecting to the wider web of relationships, community, and the world around us.

Together, we can care for the parts of you that need more light or are unwatered, helping you move toward greater connection with what feels most important.
